Privacy notice.
This notice explains what personal information The Ascent collects when you use this website or contact us, why we use it, how long we keep it and the rights you have under UK data protection law.
Who we are

What this website does and does not collect
This website is an information site. It has no contact forms, accounts, logins, comments, newsletter sign-up or payment features, and it does not use cookies, analytics, advertising tags, social media pixels or embedded media. The fonts, images and scripts are served from the website itself, so loading a page does not send your information to any other company.
The only ways we receive personal information from this website are described below.
When you email us
If you contact us using the email address on this site, we receive your email address, your name if you include it, and whatever you choose to write. We use this information to reply to you, to deal with your enquiry, and, if you ask about working with us, to arrange a conversation and tell you about The Ascent Method.
Our lawful basis depends on why you write:
- If you ask about The Ascent Method or another service, we rely on taking steps at your request before entering into a contract (UK GDPR Article 6(1)(b)).
- For any other correspondence, and for keeping a record of what was said, we rely on our legitimate interests in responding to people who contact us and in running the business properly (Article 6(1)(f)). We have considered your interests and do not think this use overrides them. You can object at any time (see “Your rights”).
You are not required to give us any information. If you do not, we will not be able to reply.
Information we ask you not to send
The Ascent is a Christian-founded mentorship. Some people naturally mention their faith, their health or their mental wellbeing when they first write. Please keep your first message to what you would like help with. Information about religious beliefs, health and similar matters is “special category” data under UK GDPR. If you include it in an email, we use it only to understand and respond to your message, and we do not store it anywhere other than the email itself. If you go on to work with us and the programme involves discussing your faith or wellbeing, we will explain what we record and ask for your explicit consent before we do so.
Server logs
Like almost every website, the servers that host this site keep technical logs of requests. These can include your IP address, the browser and device you use, the pages you visit and the time of your visit. The hosting provider keeps these logs for security, to detect abuse and to keep the website running. We rely on our legitimate interests in running a secure website (Article 6(1)(f)). We do not use these logs to identify or profile visitors.
Internal review: hosting provider and server location not yet confirmed. Before this page is published, this paragraph must name the provider and state where the logs are held. Do not publish with this note in place.
Who we share information with
We do not sell personal information and we do not share it with anyone for their marketing. The organisations that may process your information on our behalf are:
- Google, which provides the Gmail service our email address runs on. Google stores and transmits our email as a processor.
- Our website hosting provider, which keeps the server logs described above.
- Professional advisers, such as an accountant or solicitor, where that is needed to run the business or to deal with a legal matter.
We may also disclose information where the law requires it, for example to a court or regulator.
International transfers
Because our email runs on Google’s service, your emails may be stored on servers outside the United Kingdom, including in the United States. Google LLC participates in the UK Extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, which the UK government has recognised as providing adequate protection for personal data transferred to participating organisations. If this changes, we will use another safeguard recognised under UK law, such as the International Data Transfer Agreement.
How long we keep information
We keep correspondence for as long as we need it to deal with your enquiry and any follow-up, and for a reasonable period afterwards so that we can pick the conversation up if you come back to us. If you become a client, we keep the records we need for the service and, afterwards, for as long as UK tax and business-record rules require. We delete or anonymise information when it is no longer needed.
Marketing
We do not send marketing emails unless you have asked us to. If you ever receive one from us, it will include a simple way to opt out, and you can also opt out by emailing us.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to:
- ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you;
- ask us to correct information that is wrong or incomplete;
- ask us to delete your information;
- ask us to restrict how we use it;
- ask for the information you gave us in a portable form;
- withdraw consent at any time, where consent is what we rely on.
You also have the right to object to our use of your information where we rely on legitimate interests, and to object at any time to any direct marketing.
To exercise any of these rights, email theascent30@gmail.com. We will respond within one month. We may ask you to confirm your identity first. There is normally no charge.
Complaints
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, please tell us first by emailing theascent30@gmail.com. We will acknowledge your complaint, look into it and reply to you in writing.
You also have the right to complain to the UK supervisory authority, the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO): ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint, telephone 0303 123 1113, or by post to Information Commissioner’s Office, Wycliffe House, Water Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire, SK9 5AF.
